The Hemmes family's decision to breathe life into dowdy Bridge Lane in the city (see above) isn't the only move to boost the neighbourhood's food stocks. Fratelli Fresh is opening in the basement of the nearby Burns Philp building on Bridge Street. The grand pile is best known to Sydney diners as the site where Restaurant VII crashed and burnt. Fratelli Fresh owner Barry McDonald says it will include a new branch of Cafe Sopra as well as a mozzarella bar and pizzeria. "It's where they [Burns Philp] used to store spices," he says of the basement space.
